Tension vs Relaxation

Ladies,

Don't make the mistake of allowing stress to rob you of your glow, your sexy or your metabolic power!

We live in a culture that praises productivity and hard-work. While there is virtue in both, too much can create tension in our spiritual and physical beings.

BUTIsattva,  we encourage you to challenge the cultural norm, embrace your true nature of peace and experience the electric benefits found in pleasure and relaxation!

This week replace everyday worry with in-the-moment gratitude, take a break from your desk and step outside for a dose of fresh air and vitamin D or simply breathe deeply and practice the art of living in the present. Hopefully you find pleasure in your BUTI classes too, enjoy your feminine body and flow during class.

Embracing a life of pleasure will have a direct and dramatic impact on your life-force energy, your vibration and your health (and MANY studies prove pleasure improves productivity!)

Happy Monday to you all!

With love and gratitude,
MC and Bizzie

Prosciutto + Pineapple Pizza (yes, it's grain-free and delicious)

Hello BUTIsattvas!

Happy July to you all! Today we are giving you 2 recipes from our JULY MEAL PLAN!

This month's inspired cuisine is ITALIAN. We may choose a grain-free/dairy free way of life but we would rather die a thousand deaths than give up pizza (or ask you to deprive yourself of Italian food delights)

Make this Pizza below in under 20 minutes - a TRUE crowd pleaser!

Prosciutto + Pineapple Pizza

INGREDIENTS:
For crust:
1 1/2 c tapioca or arrowroot starch
1/4 c flax meal
1/2 stick pre-melted pasture butter
1/2 t salt
2 eggs
Toppings:
4 T Olive Oil + 1 T Garlic Minced (mixed)
1 cup fresh pineapple pieces (or defrosted from frozen)
1 pack nitrate-free prosciutto
1 cup mac-nut cheese (recipe below)
DIRECTIONS:
Mix crust ingredients and make into dough. Use a bit of starch to coat pizza pan. Cook at 450 degrees for 5 min. Remove from oven, brush on olive oil/garlic mix, add toppings and cook for additional 10 min.
Eat as is OR our favorite way as a Pizza Salad by topping with 1 cup of fresh arugula and drizzle with olive oil and fresh cracked pepper
Enjoy!

Mac-Nut Cheese

INGREDIENTS:
5 cups Macadamia Nuts
2 T Lemon Juice
1/2 T sea salt
DIRECTIONS:
Place all ingredients in blender and pulse. You want a crumbly texture so be sure not to over-pulse. (don’t want it too smoothe)
Spread crumbles on a cookie sheet
Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes (flip and shake halfway through cooking process)

Feeling puffy? Mrs Sniffles? Consider this...

Hello Butisattvas!

Today we’re talkin’ dairy

And oh what a touchy subject it can be....

Has a trainer, doctor, or friend ever suggested you cut dairy out of your diet?

Many BUTIsattvas will easily open to the idea of Grain-Free living but suggest a dairy-free way of life  and suddenly we have a scene from Braveheart in which they passionately defend dairy’s honor exclaiming:

“You can take my life but you can never take my dairy!

We hear you. Parting with dairy's milky ways is hard. Today we simply bring you facts and options:

3 Reasons Why Dairy's A Dietary Downer:

1. Digestive Disaster: Got symptoms of IBS? Constipated? Strange smelling flatulence? As humans, we lose the enzyme needed to digest and assimilate lactose, the sugar found in milk. Over 75% of people suffer from lactose intolerance. Sugars left undigested end up in the colon where they ferment and can cause bloating, nausea, flatulence, diarrhoea and cramping. If you're feeling puffy and not sure why remove dairy for one week. You will see changes in your muscular definition and energy!

2. Mucus Monster: Allergies? Mrs Sniffles? Dairy is super fuel for congestion and mucus. Drop dairy - breathe happy.

3. Brittle Bones: Despite the numerous campaigns hailing dairy as bone building king, this is simply not true. Dairy is incredibly acidic when metabolized in the body. In order to neutralise the acidic load and bring the body back into balance the body must take calcium from our bones. This process puts us more at risk of developing osteoporosis. Need calcium? Load up on 1 cup of Collard greens which pack 357mg of no bulls@%# calcium (compared to 280mg in 1 cup of milk).

3 Delicious + Satisfying Dairy Alternatives
(Like for real slap your moo-moo-cow mama good)

1. Coconut Milk*: Sub coconut milk in smoothies or coffee (we like So Delicious

*we also love almond milk: special post on our favorite brands + recipes later this week!

2. Chia Pods - Um hello morning yogurt or afternoon snack alternative! These are oh so delicious and packed with healthy fats from superfood chia to keep you satisfied way longer than dairy's yogurt alternative. Try these convenient pods as-is or top with coconut flakes + fresh berries!

3. Ice Cream: Luna + Larry's Coconut Bliss. O-M-Give me more! Check out various flavors here. We love Mint Galactica and Vanilla Island. What's your bliss?

There you have it! Will you give these alternatives a try?

With Love,

Receive BIG. No Apologies.

Happy Monday to you all!  Today's message is inspired by our belief that in order for women to experience total body transformation they must be willing to receive the abundance that comes their way in the form of BIG: big love, big money, big sex, big happiness, big attention.

Unwillingness or inability to receive blocks flow and creates heavy stagnation. Therefore, until a woman can unapologetically receive she will likely always struggle with some aspect of her health.

Live a BIG life.

Receive BIG.

Unapologetically.

Doing so will raise your life-force vibration + health to levels not even kale can touch!

BIG BUTI love,
MC

Cravings: 8 Common Causes + How to Get Your Power Back

Hello BUTIsattvas,

Happy Summer Solstice!

Today's hot topic is CRAVINGS.

Cravings...Ah sweet cravings (or salty if that's your thing).

Cravings have been demonized in the weight loss world

We shame them, shun them, and drain every last drop of our willpower to keep them at bay.

Yet, what if our cravings are not the enemy but rather a wise messenger?

What if we embraced them as a friend sent to lead us to greater well-being and not a foe to be conquered.

We are not victims of our cravings. That story has run it's course and is stressing us out (and therefore making us puffy).

It's time to take our power back.

Scientifically speaking our bodies create cravings whenever an imbalance is detected in our system. Because our body's primary concern is ALWAYS homeostasis, cravings pop-up when there is a need for restored harmony. Genius, really.

Next time you experience a food craving, put your detective hat on and say:

"Why hello there craving, what message might you have for me today?"

Your inner guide will respond quickly so be ready!  Once you get your answer take action. Respond in a creative way (beyond food) that will nourish the source of your true desire.

To help you uncover your cravings messages, consider these

8 Primary Causes of Cravings

  1. Dehydration The body doesn’t send the message that you are thirsty until you are on the verge of dehydration. Dehydration occurs as mild hunger, so the first thing to do when you get a strange craving is to drink a full glass of water.
  2. Lifestyle Being dissatisfied with a relationship, having an inappropriate exercise routine (too much, too little or the wrong type), being bored, stressed, uninspired by a job or lacking a spiritual practice can all contribute to emotional eating. Eating can be used as a substitute for entertainment or to fill the void. Take a moment when a craving arrives to ask what might be a deeper desire.
  3. Yin/Yang Imbalance Certain foods have more yin qualities (expansive) while other foods have more yang qualities (contractive). Eating foods that are either extremely yin or extremely yang causes cravings in order to reestablish balance. For example, eating a diet too rich in sugar (yin) may cause a craving for meat (yang).
  4. Inside Coming Out Oftentimes, cravings come from foods that we have recently eaten, foods eaten by our ancestors or foods from our childhood. A clever way to satisfy these cravings is to eat a healthier versions of one’s ancestral or childhood foods. We provide a wide variety of grain-free and delicious comfort foods each month in our meal plans (recipes for grain-free pizza to chocolate fudge and more!)
  5. Seasonal Often the body craves foods that balance out the elements of the season. In the spring, people crave detoxifying foods like leafy greens or citrus foods. In the summer, people crave cooling foods like fruit, raw foods and ice cream, and in the fall people crave grounding foods like squash, onions and nuts. In winter many crave hot and heat- producing foods like meat, oil and fat. Other cravings, such as turkey, eggnog or sweets, can also be associated with the holiday season.
  6. Lack of Nutrients If the body is getting an inadequate amount of nutrients, it will produce odd cravings. For example, inadequate mineral levels produce salt cravings, and overall inadequate nutrition produces cravings for non-nutritional forms of energy like caffeine.
  7. Hormones When women experience menstruation, pregnancy or menopause, fluctuating testosterone and estrogen levels may cause unusual cravings. Stay tuned next week for a helpful post on this topic!
  8. De-evolution When things are going extremely well, sometimes a self-sabotage syndrome happens, where we suddenly crave foods that throw us off balance. We then have more cravings to balance ourselves. This often happens from low blood sugar and may result in strong mood swings. In our meal plans we always suggest 30g of protein first thing in the morning (using VegaSport Protein Powder) to help avoid this common set-back.
We discuss these lifestyle concepts in detail in our Signature Food Philosophy and develop our meal plans with mineral balance, seasonal foods and optimal nutritional delivery in mind to keep your body in beautiful harmony. Hop over to our wellness page to learn more!

Here's to your empowered eating and your most empowered self.

Knowledge is power.  Stay curious friends.

Detox from the OUTSIDE-IN: Skin Care, Your Hormones and Your Health

Greetings BUTIsattvas,

Most people will agree that what goes IN our bodies has a direct impact on our health.

Yet few people are talking about the products we put ON our bodies and their equally powerful effects.

Our skin is extremely permeable absorbing all ingredients found in lotions, sprays, and the such then rapidly delivering them into our bloodstreams.

To help us ensure we aren't flooding our sweet blood with poison, I called my friend and toxic-free skin care expert Monique Reavis of Goddess Huntress.  She's looking fabulous on the front lines of this topic as she continually discovers simple and valuable information we should all pay attention to for happy skin and a healthy body.

This week Monique shares with us her top 3 things to consider when choosing skin care products.

Goddess Huntress' Top 3 things to consider with skin care products:
  • Fragrance - Fragrance is one of the most toxic beauty products and beauty ingredients out there.  Unfortunately, companies do not have to disclose the components of fragrances on labels because it is considered intellectual property and is protected by trade secret laws. Many of our beloved fragrance sprays contain endocrine disruptors which can wreak havoc on our hormones.  Endocrine disruptors are linked to early onset puberty, genital deformities, man boobs, diabetes, breast and prostate cancer. Luckily the companies that do use healthy ingredients in their fragrance formulas are the ones who will tell you all about it on their labels.  If you only see the word "fragrance" listed as an ingredient, walk away and don't inhale.

Monique's fragrance fav: Lurk Fragrances

  • Sunscreen - Monitor your sunscreen. Stay the hell away from sunscreens listing "oxybenzone" or "retinyl palmitate" as active ingredients or other ingredients.  Both of these chemical nasties are actually photo-carcinogens, which mutate into carcinogens when exposed to sunlight...completely counter to skin cancer prevention. Also stay away from sunscreens with the ingredient prefix "nano" or "micronized" because since those ingredient particles are so minuscule in size, you may risk it entering your blood stream. Check out how your sunscreen rates HERE.
Monique's sunscreen fav: COOLA Suncare

  • Nails - The nail industry has really listened to consumers and nail technicians' concerns about toxic ingredients. The majority of brands are now 3 free (free of formaldehyde, toluene, and dibutyl phthalate) and there are other outstanding brands cleaning up even further by removing camphor and formaldehyde resin...Chanel and Dior are 5 free.  Bring your own clean nail polish to the nail salon.  If you are unsure if the salon's base coat is 3 free, bring your own. Here is my growing list of clean nail polishes.

Monique's nail polish fav: RGB Cosmetics

Thank you Monique for the quick tips!
